We have an interesting situation with Winnebago Co. My husband's ancestor is listed as William Esmond ACOX on his marriage and death certificate and went by the name Esmond most of his life. When we requested his birth records in Winnebago Co. IL. born 8 Dec. 1885, parents William C. ACOX b.April 1862 and Lillian FILLMORE b. Aug 1862, the birth certificate recorded Leonard William as the child's name. There seem to be no other records of this Leonard William ACOX. We first assumed that the two were twins but the birth records says a single birth. What an interesting mystery!! tacox@zoomnet.net Thank you. Monica

The surnames I am researching are:

POLLOCK, William Henry and Phebe
LIPPITT, Dr. John Wesley
SEATON, Arlo and Sophronia
KEENEY, Julius and Hester

Dr. John Lippitt was to have been one of the first doctors in Winnebago County. He came before 1841 as did Julius Keeney. All of the above names are my grandparents. I am also trying to locate a book on Shirland-Kepotah written by Diane Miller. I found out about it at our local FHC library on the new microfiche. It was written in about 1994. I wonder if it is still available for purchase.Richoov@aol.com

My G G grandfather Charles H Garnsey was born in Roscoe September 14
1850. His parents were Andrew J. Garnsey and Parmelia Pepin Garnsey.
They were married Sept 1, 1846 in Roscoe. Their first daughter, Hannah
Jerusha died at the age of two weeks and is probably buried in Roscoe or
nearby. Ellen Elizabeth, Charles sister, was born in 1851. I have been
unable to locate parents for Andrew J. Garnsey. He was born in NY state
and moved west from Illinois shortly after his children were born. I
believe he also had relatives who were moving west alongside him.

Not only am I looking for all official records, but also any letters
from the pre Civil War period to and from Pepins, Garnseys and
Courtneys. (Ellen Elizabeth--Nell--married a Courtney in Iowa when she
grew up.)

Parmelia Pepin Garnsey had several brothers who served in the Civil War,
and Andrew died there. Surely people wrote letters back to Roscoe about it.

Thank you.

Susan Schnur

DUNMORE. John was born 1847- died 1932. John lived in Sterling IL and
Clinton IA after the Civil War. He married. His marriage to KATIE BUTLER
lists her as living in Winnebago Co. or maybe Winnebago Village. Ed MacDonald
